Zero felt her embrace as it surprised him and he just simply sighed while shaking his head,”Don’t worry about that part…”,he said embracing her back with a small smile. “For now on…they won’t control you…I made sure of that”,he murmured while looking at Iris and soon after kissing her on the lips, his body decided to sit down against the wall as he pulled her down with him and smiled,”So…how do you feel?”.
Iris leaned into the kiss and sank with him, sitting upon his lap. She smiled brightly at him. She tightened her gripped and rearranged herself before replying. “I feel again, which is delightful! I’m just really excited now. It’s so much better to have feelings again. I feel…” She tilted her head, searching for a good word. “Well, to be honest, I feel like new. Like I’m alive.” She smiled and tightened her grip on him. “What about you? You didn’t have to hurt anyone to do this, did you?” Her eyes narrowed in a hint of concern.

“You won’t get stuck dear….listen…just get some rest and I will sort this all out alright?”,he said to her gently rubbing his hand against her check and just a gave a small smile of reassurance. His hands gently held her own as he helped her into her pod and watched her fall asleep and the moment she was resting his face dropped into one of angry and all sorts of negative emotions. Zero’s eyes narrowed as a feeling of betray filled his chest, the very beings he gave his up his life for many many times was now putting control mechanics in them and this was something he wouldn’t take lightly be they human or reploid.
The red hunter had left her room as he made his way to the computer room where all maintenance was done and using the ID checking he obtain from Ciel a while back he soon accessed the computer’s files seeing that the humans were hard at work to keep these things under wraps. This was no issue thanks to him and his Cyber Elf,together the two quickly released Iris’ emotional locks and soon found that she was meant for field work which only made him even more mad but decided to leave it alone so that he didn’t leave a trace of his work as he shut down the windows and left without anyone knowing and having to shed no bloodshed.
Iris’s sleep was troubled, and as her systems hooked up to the new mainframe, she found herself not exactly dreaming, but still conscious in a sense. It was as if she were inside the mainframe. Wires hooked into her and read her memory, hearing what had happened throughout the day. She had no control over it, but she also sensed no immediate response. It was likely that they had it all stored in one bank, and would not actually view it until someone sorted through the whole thing. That relieved her to an extent. As time passed and she rested, a strange feeling overcame her. She felt her mind free up, become less clogged. As her sleep ended, she felt again. Gone was the fog clouding her emotions.
She left the pod as Zero returned to the room and ran to him, quickly throwing herself against him. Her face was nearly split in two by her smile. She said nothing at first, but rather embraced him as tightly as she could manage. Her mind was racing with the return of her emotions, and having Zero back was like new all over again. She leaned up to give him a quick kiss on the cheek. “You did it! How did you do it?” She felt giddy and excited and all sorts of positive right now; she just hoped that he did not find it irritating.

Zero closed his eyes as he was in conflict again in his heart, his actions caused harm again and he felt he was better off alone but knew he would never be alone so had to just suck up all these feelings. The reploid felt Iris’ embrace as he just felt himself warm up a small bit while returning the embrace and remembering that he had to fulfill a promise for once and would go to converse with Ciel once this was over.
The hunter gently let her go as he put his hands on her shoulders and made her rise up her face while looking at her right in her eyes as he slowly nodded to reassure her. This was something only Zero and Iris could really do successfully as Zero was never a talker and as time went on she learned to talk to him through body language as the two were doing now.

His nod spoke more than his words ever could. She smiled and returned the nod, glad to know that he would hold up his promise. They often shared moments like these- it was what made them such a good team. They had a connection that no being could explain. It was the same thing that gave her faith that they’d always remember each other, no matter what happened. That feeling warmed her to her core. The smile on her face was genuine, as was the light behind her green eyes.
She was beginning to feel the fatigue of the day on her systems. If she didn’t power down and let her systems recharge soon, she’d earn herself a one-way ticket to the recovery bay. She sighed, reluctant to enter the sleeping pod now installed in her room. She leered at it with nervous eyes. “I don’t want to go to sleep in that thing…” Her voice was quiet. “It seems so constricted. What if it gets stuck?” She knew that was hardly a possibility, but she just needed some reason to not sleep in there.

Zero suddenly saw jump away from him as he could sense panic in her face and caught on to it fast….she was restrict from expressing her love and this just drove him over the edge. “…Iris…this isn’t lasting…Ciel is helping me stop this mess and if she doesn’t then I am dropping you out of the system myself”,he said to her harshly not holding back from his frustration and anger. His body gently walked towards her as he held her in his arms and just put her head to his chest,”….Don’t be scared….I will fix this…I swear it….”,he said to her running his hand through her hair that was still as big as it was before.
“…I love you Iris…and I know you love me….”,he said to her as he gently pulled her into another kiss while looking at her sleeping pod and just sighing and feeling an odd emotion in his heart….like an old and ancient contempt towards humans, was it from his past? When he was a maverick? Did he used to be against the humans because of his emotions.

Iris leaned in against Zero, glad to have his support. She slid her arms around his neck and pulled herself closer to him. The Navigator and her Hunter… They made a strange pair for certain. She shifted back away from him after a long kiss. She sighed with worry, but smiled on. She trusted him beyond a doubt, and was glad to know that he understood her plight. He was not angry at her, he was angry at the humans. But that was likely to be just as dangerous. She didn’t want him putting himself at this kind of risk. If he were to be branded a Maverick, she would do everything in her power to go with him. She had no doubt about that. But it would also make any hope of her recovery even farther out of reach.
“You have to promise me one thing, Zero,” she said, looking straight into his eyes. “No matter what happens. No matter what they do. You cannot strike out at any of the people here. We were made to protect them, and we cannot forsake that. You have to promise me that you’ll restrain yourself and stay yourself from harming them.”

“….I don’t know Iris…..I remember the first night I slept in those pods….it was the night you died…”,he said as his face lowered and his eyes closed tightly trying to push away the image from over one hundred years of ago of his holding her cold and lifeless body in his arms. “…Listen to me Iris…I want you in my Unit…I can’t stand the thought you out there alone…those humans know I am back now and are probably messing their pants knowing that they screwed up and that Ciel will have their butts…”,he smirked as he wasn’t fond of the guys in charge of their tech and wished they had reploids working on this like in the old days.
Zero gently sat down on a chair in her chambers and pulled her close to him on his lap as he held her close to him as the automatic door closed. “….Iris…like the flower…your not meant for combat…your brother always told me that no matter what to never let you see combat”,he closed his eyes now still holding her. “…But if you do…your staying right by me…I won’t lose you to this stupid war again…all this fighting…all this death…it’s pointless…”,he trailed off once more and sighed.
The hunter was now smiling a little bit as he gently kissed her on the chin,”…Sometimes…I wonder if I would be as heartless and cold as those mavericks if I didn’t have you…if I didn’t love you”,he said letting out another sigh.

Iris pulled herself more comfortably onto his lap. Her new body was difficult to adjust to, but she found a position where she could be comfortable. She sighed and leaned against him as she thought over what he said. She didn’t want to be in combat at all, but it appeared they were going to force her to be, seeing as they had seen fit to update her body. Her sleeping chambers hinted at it as well. She didn’t like it. It made her nervous. She held onto him tightly, shaking just a little. “I hope I don’t have to approach the open field, but if I do… I swear I will stay as close to you as I can.”
She laid her head upon his shoulder, burying her face into his neck. His hair brushed her face, but she ignored it. A sad smile played across her lips. “It’s terrible to say, Zero… But I don’t know if you’d be alive. Someone would have risen to defeat you. But I’m glad they haven’t. I’m glad you haven’t fallen to that level.” Her voice was a whisper. She leaned her forehead against his cheek. “Zero… I…” Her voice caught. No, why couldn’t she say it? She sighed and pulled away, abruptly frustrated. Quickly she stood and stepped away, angered at the restrictions. She couldn’t express how she felt, couldn’t tell him her feelings for him. She loved him deeply, but it was as if she didn’t know the words. No, she knew them. She just couldn’t speak them.

Zero was out of his medical bay area much sooner than he thought as he found Iris in her quarters and saw one of those damned machines he hated…the sleep pods. “…I hate these things…I used to have countless nightmares when I powered down in these….so I guess they count you as a field officer now”,he said coming up from behind her in a cleaner and repaired body as his Mythos systems were shown more prominently keeping with a slightly more slender body and that white hair that took Iris so long to get used to.
It seemed he went back to his old body when he disappear and was now in his newer one again which he was okay with. “…Iris…those pods…they were only used for those of us on the field…please don’t tell me…”,he trailed off fearing the worst for her and soon felt that tiny bit of anger returning to him. He didn’t want her fighting….her brother wouldn’t want this,in fact the one time the two got along back then was to keep her off the battlefield.

She was glad to see him enter her chamber. She rose from her seat on the floor and walked up to embrace him. One of the benefits of her new form was that she was slightly taller, making these embraces much easier on her. She pulled back and kissed him quickly, a small smile on her face. “Glad to see you’re alright,” she said quietly. She glanced over at the pod across the room. “It wasn’t here when I went to sleep. I only woke up earlier today, so I don’t know when they put it in.” She sighed and looked at her feet. “Gauging from what they’ve already done, it may be another precaution due to my previous instability.”
She hated talking about herself like that. Like she was just some machine. That was how they saw her, and it made her feel… wrong. It was uncomfortable, that was for sure. But she could not shake the knowledge that she was nothing more than some metal shell. She leaned against him, head on his chest. “It scares me, Zero. I don’t want them to have access to my memory. I don’t want them to be able to see all of that… It’s wrong.” She shook her head lightly. “How did you manage to deal with it?”

Zero closed his eyes as he felt her leaned against him with his bloodied face and cracked armor….he must have looked like a piece of work next to her…like a regular beauty and the beast…more like the devil and the angel. He didn’t know what to do,but he did know that he needed to fix this and bring her back to him as the way she was….she would never let Zero put himself first for that was just her nature and how deeply she was dedicated to him….she would stick with him even if he was branded, but he would never give her that reality,he just couldn’t.
The hunter looked down at her and just put his hand gently under her chin as his lips once more touched base with her own,but this time he didn’t let go and just kept them like that….kissing her reminded him he was still alive and not a metal shell,it reminded him that he still had a heart. After a while the kiss broke and he sighed seeing that it was time for his repairs soon,”…They will have to repair me soon…I will be out momentarily…please stay safe…”,he said looking down.
Iris’s emerald eyes took in his injuries. He was broken, and had to be in a lot of pain. His oily blood was splatted across her own body from embracing him, but she didn’t care. It would not take much to wipe away, and he deserved her attention. She leaned into the kiss gently, hand brushing his neck. She pulled away slowly after he did. She did not want to leave him, but she knew that he was in pain. He needed to be treated soon. She stood slowly, sorrow in her eyes. “I will, Zero. You get better, alright?” She reached out and squeezed his hand again. “I’ve missed you so much, Zero.” She smiled sadly at him and walked away.
It didn’t take long to find her new chamber. It was smaller, with a sleeping pod that had a hookup to store her memories for the day. That frightened her. She did not want to let them see her memories. She was not just some tool. She sat down with her back against the opposite wall, leering at the pod. It made her nervous. Especially with the way Zero had been talking earlier, she did not want them to hear her memories. A sigh slid from her lips as she settled in to wait for him to be cleared from the recovery bay.

hunterofmavericks:
“You don’t get it Iris!”,he yelled at her standing up from the bed and looking into her eyes with a great rage that wasn’t meant for her,but for the humans who did this…to the humans who thought blocking out emotions was the best course of action and that these emotions were a hindrance. Zero looked at her and let out a small sigh,”….I won’t let this stay….I will fix this….I swear it….I stood against humans once…I can do it again”,he said to her not thinking in his right mind about this…about going against the humans and possibly being branded a traitor…a maverick.
Zero’s rage soon passed by as he sat back down and looked at her,”…Iris….you don’t deserve this….you need your extreme emotions…they forge whom you are…”,he said to her holding her hand and looking down. “….Without them…we are just machines designed to serve…our hearts allow us to be more human”,his words were much softer as Zero broke down his defenses for one moment to gently press his lips to her own.

Her lips tingled as they touched his. Oh, how she had missed this contact! She lingered against him, resting her cheek against his. She didn’t want to move, afraid that he would storm off. “Zero, don’t say such things,” she whispered to him. “If you do… You can’t do that. You can’t afford to let yourself be branded as that.” She didn’t say it, suddenly afraid of if someone could hear. She didn’t want to put him at that risk. Her eyes slid shut for a moment. She sighed and placed her hand on his, then threaded her fingers with his.
“I know that you’re angry over this. But putting yourself in danger like that only puts us both at more risk. Who knows what they’ll think to do if you go maverick?” Her voice barely cracked out the word. She pulled him closer, starting to feel a fear creeping through her. She laid her head upon his chest, reveling in his closeness. “I know you’ll fix this. I trust you. But please, you have to do it safely. I…” Her voice broke as she tried to speak. She shook her head slightly and squeezed her eyes shut. “I can’t lose you again.”
